When I am not in the office or courtroom practicing law, one of my hobbies is singing with the Rich-Tone Chorus. About 100 women make up our Sweet Adelines Chorus where we sing four-part, a cappella harmony. Sweet Adelines continues to positively impact women’s lives and helps them find their voices, build confidence, enhance their vocal abilities, improve leadership and management qualities, and create a lifelong support system of sisterhood and friendship.
My story behind joining the Rich-Tone Chorus
I first learned about the Rich-Tones from my sister-in-law who was a member of the chorus for around 15 years. She was persistent in urging me to join, so I reluctantly came to a guest night at the rehearsal hall and was hooked from that first chorus rehearsal. I sang with the chorus as a guest in their Christmas show in 2009 and I never left. I am a proud member of the lead section, have been on the chorus Management Team for many years and head up the marketing duties for the chorus.
How the competition works
Recently, we represented Region 25 of Sweet Adelines in St. Louis at the International Competition. As Regional Champions, we competed with other champions from 35 regions from around the world who traveled to St. Louis this past October. Several different categories account for judgement criteria, including music showmanship, sound, etc. If a chorus is in the top 10 after the Thursday semi- finals, they will compete in the finals on that Saturday.
Type of music will you find
If you are not familiar with barbershop harmonies, you are in for a treat. When listening to our Sweet Adelines Chorus, expect an entertaining show with incredible vocals and exciting choreography. The Rich-Tones are committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performances that push the limits of barbershop music. You can find our performances on YouTube – check out our finals performance of “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman. This one gained the attention of nearly 40,000 viewers.
Upcoming performances from the Rich-Tones
During the Christmas season, The Rich-Tone Chorus will perform at a customer appreciation event at 4 Dillard’s stores. We also often perform at Santa’s Village in Richardson during the holidays and offer Hollygrams – singing holiday greetings for your friends and family.
In March, we start competing again. Since we placed third in the international competition, we will go back to compete regionally in Little Rock, Arkansas. April is our casino night where we will sing at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Plano. The best place to see The Rich-Tone Chorus in action is either there or at our annual show in August at the Eisemann Center in Richardson.
