We can help with your child custody issues

November 28, 2014 By legal staff - W.C.

As mentioned in the previous post on our Dallas family law blog, dealing with child custody issues is a difficult matter regardless of the time of year. Even though parenting is often seen as a fundamental human right, various circumstances lead to couples ending their relationship with each other and jeopardizing their right to parent. However, with the right counsel, it is possible to protect this right and ensure that children benefit from the involvement of both their parents in their lives.

In Texas, the word “custody” is not used-rather conservatorship is the term used to describe the legal rights and responsibilities that arise after a divorce. Just like custody determinations, conservatorships also revolve around the best interests of children. This is decided by analyzing a number of factors that lawyers are familiar with and can help parents prepare for.

There is also an assumption of co-parenting in Texas, meaning that both parents give input to deciding matters relating to the children. In contentious or acrimonious divorces, parents may try to block the other parent’s access to their children. Family lawyers in our firm can help parents preserve their right to give input into their children’s lives and attempt to argue that they should spend time with their children regularly.

Many issues arise with the end of a marriage involving children, such as relocation, parenting plans and custody issues. Lawyers at our firm understand that divorce raises a number of emotions and they can help parents that are going through a difficult time by taking custody matters out of their hands and creating a parenting plan that suits both parties while remaining within the children’s best interests.
